10 ways to relax
We all have our own worries and troubles every day. Rush hour traffic, pressing deadlines, sick child, you name it. If there’s too much pressure building up, falling prey to depression may be quite easy. Learn to relax and release the tension to avoid the unnecessary stress.
1. Swimming
Many people frequent the beaches or swimming pool, as they find swimming pleasurable and relaxing. When in water, you concentrate on your movement and your breathing, instead of your daily troubles.
2. Time for your lovely self.
Find some time for yourself, even if it’s just 20 minutes. Do what you want to do: read a book, lie on your back with your eyes closed, listen to the music. If household duties help you take the stress away, go for it! The keyis that you enjoy what you’re doing.
3. Breathing technique
Shallow breathing is conducive of adrenaline production, resulting in anxiety and overexcitement. To calm down, you need to breathe deeply and slowly. Sit straight, put one hand on your stomach, and the other hand on your chest. When you inhale, your chest and your stomach should rise simultaneously. Slowly breathe out. Repeat 20 times.

Stress and anxiety make your muscles tense. Simple massage is a great solution! Reach your spinal cord with your fingers as far as possible, then press your fingers against your back and massage it up to the neck. Then, massage the back of your neck, except the backbone.
5. Switch your attention
When you are overfilled with emotions, distract your attention from the object that causes you trouble. If you are at work, water the flowers, organize the papers, or walk in the hallway. If you are stressed at home, go outside (or on the balcony, at least), or clean the house. Find something to do every time when you feel you can’t control your emotions anymore. Gradually, it will become a useful habit.
6. Food can boost your mood.
Some people have a constant urge to eat when their spirits are down, and some people can’t eat at all. Any extremes like these are unacceptable, especially in the times of stress. Make sure your diet is well-balanced, eat frequently in little portions, and exclude any fat foods.
7. Do your thing
Work and hobbies distract from problems, help cope with stress and even conquer the depression. But there is one “if”: you should immerse yourself into the work completely, or commit yourself fully to something you really enjoy. The process is fascinating, and so is the result.
8. Meditation session
When you come home from work, find a cozy place, sit yourself comfortably, relax your back, let your hands loose. Close your eyes and imagine that you are on the sea shore or in the garden. Hear the waves or birds chirping. Then slowly open your eyes.
9. Take a shower!
Don’t have a swimming pool in your area? Not a big fan of bathtubs? You can have an amazing relaxation experience standing under the shower. Turn on some recordings with sounds of forest or rain. Apply some shower gel with mango or citrus flavour. Close your eyes and imagine how you make your way through the jungles in a tropical rainfall. Enjoy the water streaming down your body… Don’t you feel the stress washing away?
10. “Don’t worry, be happy” mix
A glass of champagne will help you relax indeed, but you don’t always need to resort to alcohol. Keep in mind this amazing recipe of “Don’t worry, be happy” juice mix. Fill half of the glass with grapefruit juice, add one table spoon of a freshly squeezed beetroot juice, add a teaspoon of honey, some ice and 100 ml of mineral water with gases. Enjoy your drink!
